Dating to 380–343 BCE, the original column at The Metropolitan Museum of Art combines stylized representations of the common papyrus with foxtail flatsedge plants—an early example of the so-called composite capitals that unite decorative botanical forms into one cohesive design. Eichholtz honors this legacy by translating the Egyptian capital’s rhythm and symmetry into the sculptural base of this modern table.
